Creating a Safer, More Efficient Route Through Celorico de Basto

EN210 Bypass – Lordelo to Corgo

Improving mobility around Celorico de Basto called for a new road connection capable of providing more efficient circulation between Lordelo and Corgo. Promoted by Infraestruturas de Portugal, the 3.3 km EN210 Bypass creates a new route incorporating three roundabouts connecting Lordelo, Fermil via the EN304 and Corgo via the EN210, together with a significant set of engineering structures adapted to the surrounding terrain.

Despite its relatively compact length, the bypass required a diverse combination of geotechnical, structural and road engineering solutions. The project includes two viaducts, a bridge over the River Veade, one overpass, one underpass, two agricultural crossings and major retaining structures, including walls reaching approximately 12 metres in height. Quadrante developed the Basic and Detailed Designs through a multidisciplinary scope encompassing alignment, geology and geotechnics, traffic, drainage, pavements, environmental studies, structures, lighting, expropriations and road safety, among other disciplines.

The new bypass was designed to provide a more effective alternative for road movements through the area, combining improved circulation with safer connections to the existing EN210 and EN304 networks. The concentration of bridges, viaducts, crossings and retaining structures along only 3.3 km also makes the project particularly significant from an engineering perspective, requiring close coordination between road design, structures, geotechnics, drainage and environmental considerations.
