Using the path of the past with the safety of the present

Slopes Stabilisation on the Régua – Ferrão Section of the Douro Line

The project covered the stabilisation of 11 centuries-old slopes on the Régua – Ferrão section, with the aim of guaranteeing the proper operation and safety of the Douro Line.

In order not to affect the communities and tourism in the surrounding area, the work had to be carried out at night and with the railroad closed to train circulation, thus minimising interference in the Alto Douro Wine Region, classified as a World Heritage Site (Natural Landscape category) by UNESCO since 2001.
