Transforming Shipyard Operations at the Port of Barcelona

New Syncrolift Shipyard – Port of Barcelona

The new Syncrolift shipyard at the Port of Barcelona was developed to expand the port’s capacity for the repair and maintenance of large yachts. The project created a 23,860 m² working platform reclaimed from the sea, supported by extensive marine foundations and equipped with a vessel lifting and transfer system that enables several yachts to be serviced simultaneously.

The new shipyard platform is supported by a grid of 485 concrete piles, comprising 101 piles with a diameter of 1,800 mm, 312 of 1,500 mm and 72 of 1,000 mm. A Syncrolift system raises vessels from the water to the level of the working platform using synchronised electromechanical hoists. Once lifted, vessels can be transferred on bogies and moved through an orthogonal network of approximately 14 km of rails to different repair positions, freeing the lifting platform for the next vessel.

Separating vessel lifting from the repair areas significantly increases the operational flexibility of the shipyard. Once raised from the water, yachts can be transferred across the rail network to dedicated working positions, leaving the Syncrolift available for other vessels and enabling several repair operations to take place simultaneously. Meta Engineering, now operating as Quadrante Global , supervised the construction of the infrastructure required to deliver this new shipyard capacity at the Port of Barcelona.
