Engineering the Infrastructure Behind Lisbon’s New Hospital

Hospital Lisboa Oriental

Hospital Lisboa Oriental is a major new healthcare development in Marvila, Lisbon, designed to bring together most of the clinical activities currently distributed across six hospital units in the city. With a gross area of 180,000 m² and three interconnected buildings, the new hospital will create a modern and integrated healthcare environment designed around operational efficiency, resilience and the needs of patients and healthcare professionals.

The hospital will initially provide 875 beds, with the infrastructure designed to accommodate up to 1,075 beds in contingency situations without additional construction work. The development includes underground and above-ground connections between buildings, a heliport and 2,945 parking spaces, at least 1,450 of which will be underground. Quadrante’s multidisciplinary engineering scope covers structures and foundations, water supply and fire protection, wastewater and stormwater drainage, gas, electrical and telecommunications networks, road infrastructure and external works, earthworks, traffic consultancy and acoustics, as well as the heliport.
