Engineering a New Connection Across Bucharest

Ciurel Interchange and Express Road – Splaiul Independenței to A1 Motorway

Improving connectivity across Bucharest’s western urban corridor was the driving ambition behind the Ciurel Interchange and Express Road project. Designed to establish a new road connection between Splaiul Independenței and the A1 Motorway, the infrastructure combines grade-separated junctions, access ramps and bridges to support more efficient traffic circulation within the Romanian capital.

The complexity of integrating new road infrastructure into an established urban environment required extensive coordination across multiple civil engineering disciplines. Acting as Specialist Designer and Design Coordinator for the joint venture, Quadrante was responsible for design services covering all civil works except utilities, including permitting documentation (PAC), Technical Design, Detailed Design and Technical Assistance. The scope encompassed road infrastructure, grade-separated junctions, ramps, bridges and the cable-stayed bridge at Ciurel.
