Planning a Faster, Safer Connection Across Northern Romania

Baia Mare–Dej High-Speed Road – Lot 1 Feasibility Study

More efficient connections and stronger regional development are driving plans for the Baia Mare–Dej–Bistrița high-speed road, a strategic corridor extending over 180 km across northern Romania. Within this wider corridor, Quadrante is developing the Feasibility Study for Lot 1, between Baia Mare and Dej, supporting a new expressway designed to accommodate growing transport demand, improve road safety and provide bypass functionality for the towns along its route. The project is promoted by Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR).

Defining the most efficient and sustainable alignment requires the systematic assessment of alternative solutions before progressing to a final design proposal. Quadrante is responsible for the multicriteria analyses, developed in two phases, and for the final design of the selected solution, establishing a robust technical basis for the future expressway. The assignment also includes technical assistance to CNAIR in support of the funding application and during the procurement procedure for the subsequent design and construction contracts.

The feasibility study represents an essential step towards a new strategic road connection capable of improving mobility across northern Romania. By assessing alternatives and defining the final solution for the Baia Mare–Dej section, Quadrante is helping establish the technical foundations for an infrastructure that aims to respond to increasing traffic demand, enhance road safety, divert through-traffic from urban areas and support the region’s longer-term economic and social development.
