The wind of change: a Sustainable Future

Zonda and Carlinga Wind Projects

The Zonda and Carlinga wind farms – to be built in Penafiel, are some of the first onshore projects under development in Portugal incorporating new-generation wind turbines with approximately 6 MW.

These wind farms represent a significant step towards a more sustainable future with greater energy independence, since they use wind to generate energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In this project, Quadrante worked on the environmental impact studies and the engineering projects for the wind farm and substations, with several disciplines involved. These included medium- and high-voltage electrical and electromechanical design, infrastructure design for earthworks, drainage, access roads and platforms, geotechnics, safety, architecture and stability, among others.

These parks are located on difficult sites, with very rough land, significant rock clusters, proximity to sites of archaeological interest and many environmental constraints. All of these issues required Quadrante to develop different economic studies to assess the construction costs and the power installed/generated at each wind farm.
