Reinforcing Chile's Transmission System

Transmission Lines for the Parinas – Likanantai Project

The Parinas – Likanantai Transmission Lines project is crucial to modernise the energy infrastructure of the Antofagasta region and to strengthen Chile’s Trunk Transmission System.

This project not only increases energy transmission capability, ensuring a more efficient and reliable supply, but also eases the integration of renewable energy sources into the electrical grid.

The project consisted of the construction of a new 2×500-kV transmission line, between the Parinas substation and the Likanantai Substation, with a capacity of 1700 MVA. It presented huge technical challenges, given the project location’s difficult access and high altitude, between 2,000-3,400 m.

Impact

Quadrante developed all engineering services for the tender phase, including the electromechanical and electrical design; civil construction design (supports and foundations) and the necessary access for the supports’ assembly and maintenance; studies for weather conditions, and isolation and geotechnical pre-feasibility for construction. The process culminated in the preparation of the complete bidding dossier to be delivered to the Chilean national electrical coordinator (CEN).
